The Indian government will declare Odisha as a tussar silk state, aiming to enhance the livelihood of 3.5 lakh artisans and weavers across 29 districts. Odisha contributes a significant portion of India's 131-tonne annual tussar production. The initiative includes designating a district as a textile hub, linking it to tourism, and ensuring weavers earn between ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 monthly. This move is expected to position India as the top silk producer globally.
